Terms & Conditions

The Terms and Conditions set out below shall apply to all African Liner services, vehicles and premises.

  1. Exclusion of Liability
    1. All persons entering African Liner premises, property or vehicles, and making use of its services, do so entirely at their risk.
    2. African Liner shall not be held responsible for, and shall not be liable for any loss or damage (including consequential or special damages or loss of profits), of whatsoever nature and howsoever caused, and whether or not caused by African Liner, its directors, its officers, servants, agents or any other person acting on behalf of or under the control of African Liner, arising out of or connected in any way with the services, transportation or non-transportation by African Liner to any passenger or persons and/or their property.
  2. Tickets
    1. All tickets are issued subject to the terms and conditions set out herein.
    2. On acceptance of and use of any African Liner ticket the passenger confirms that he/she has read and understood these terms and conditions and is aware of the content thereof.
    3. Tickets are only valid for the specific route, and for use by the person to whom they are issued. Tickets are not transferrable and the passenger shall ensure that all information provided to African Liner that is reflected on the ticket is correct.
    4. Any change to the route, date, time and or passenger will require the issuance of a fresh ticket which will attract the appropriate additional fare.
    5. Tickets may not be amended and any alteration to any African Liner ticket will render such ticket invalid.
    6. Only tickets issued by African Liner or its authorised agents shall be valid.
  3. Cancellations and Refunds
    1. Booked tickets may not be changed and no refunds are payable on cancellation of any booked ticket or failure by the passenger to arrive on time to make use of the issued ticket for that specific journey.
  4. Timetables and Schedules
    1. African Liner undertakes to make all reasonable effort to keep to its scheduled timetables, but cannot not guarantee any arrival or departure times, and it does not accept any liability for any loss or damage incurred by any passenger, or inconvenience experienced by any person, due to a delay or cancellation of any service for whatsoever reason.
    2. African Liner reserves the right to cancel any of its services for any reason without prior notice. African Liner will not be liable for any loss or damage incurred by passengers as a result of such cancellation.
  5. Departure Times
    1. All passengers are required to be at the African Liner departure point no less than 30 minutes prior to the scheduled departure time reflected on the ticket.
    2. Failure to arrive within 10 minutes prior to the scheduled departure time will result in cancellation of the ticket. On such cancellation African Liner shall be entitled to offer for sale such cancelled ticket to any standby passenger.
    3. African Liner shall not be held liable and shall be exempt from any loss, damage, or any claim resulting from such cancellation.
  6. Minor Children and Infants
    1. Any child under the age of 12 shall be accompanied by its parent, legal guardian, or adult authorised in writing by the parent or legal guardian.
    2. Children over the age of 12 but under the age of 18 shall be entitled to travel unaccompanied on condition that they have written consent by a parent or guardian.
    3. It is the responsibility of any parent or guardian to ensure that any official requirements of all cross border authorities are fulfilled. African Liner shall not be held responsible if such requirements are not fulfilled and the minor child is excluded from entering any country as a result thereof.
    4. Children younger than 24 months may travel free of charge on the lap of a parent or legal guardian, provided that only one child per parent or legal guardian is allowed.
  7. Luggage
    1. Each passenger is entitled, free of charge and at their own risk, two pieces of luggage the dimensions of which do not exceed 80cm x 60cm x 30cm, and the combined weight of which does not exceed 30Kg, provided that a return ticket has been booked and paid for in full.
    2. All luggage save for hand luggage shall be stored either in the hold of the bus or the trailer.
    3. Oversized luggage may be permitted solely at the discretion of African Liner, space permitting.
    4. All luggage in excess of 30kg will be charged at a rate per kilogram determined by African Liner from time to time, and will only accepted space permitting.
    5. African Liner complies with international anti-smuggling laws and procedures and reserves the right for identification purposes to photograph and record the details of each passenger and that passenger’s luggage and or goods.
    6. African Liner reserves the right at its sole discretion to refuse carriage of any person luggage or goods.
    7. Unaccompanied luggage shall not be allowed.
    8. No insurance cover is provided by African Liner. Passengers are required to acquire travel insurance at their own discretion and cost.
    9. African Liner does not allow the carriage of firearms, ammunition, illicit goods or persons, drugs, or any other contraband or prohibited goods and reserves the right to reject any such luggage or goods.
    10. It is the passenger’s responsibility to ensure that all luggage and goods transported by African Liner complies with any customs requirement or any other laws in any jurisdiction on any African Liner route.
    11. It is the passenger’s responsibility to ensure that all baggage and goods are locked and properly secured.
    12. It is the responsibility of all passengers to ensure that on disembarkation they remove all luggage, goods and personal possessions from the African Liner Any item not claimed within three months will sold to defray expenses.
    13. African Liner undertakes to do all that is reasonably necessary to prevent loss or damage to passenger’s luggage, goods and personal belongings, but shall not be held liable for any loss or damage, whatsoever and howsoever arising, including but not limited to, claims arising from the transportation or non- transportation of persons or goods or loss or damage to passengers` luggage, goods, hand luggage, personal effects.
  8. Animals
    1. No animals or pets are permitted save for a trained guide dog required to assist the visually impaired.
  9. Smoking
    1. Smoking of any kind, including electronic cigarettes, is not permitted on any African liner coach.
  10. Alcohol and Drugs
    1. Alcohol and drugs are strictly forbidden on all African Liner coaches and premises. Intoxicated passengers will not be allowed to board any coach and will be ejected from any coach or premises if found to be intoxicated.
  11. Cross Border Travel and Documentation
    1. It shall be the sole responsibility of all passengers to ensure that they are in possession of valid passports, visas, inoculations, minimum cash limits, and any other necessary travel documents required to travel on the relevant African Liner route.
    2. In the event that any passenger is denied entry to any country as a result of defective travel documents or for any other reason will not be allowed to delay the schedule of the African Liner coach and will therefore not be allowed continue the journey.
    3. No passenger shall have any claim of any nature against African Liner or its appointed agents, should he/she be prevented from undertaking or continuing with any journey as a result of the failure to produce any official documents, including travelling documents to any authority.
  12. Special Needs Passengers
    1. For safety and medical reasons no pregnant women are allowed to travel on African Liner coaches beyond 28 weeks of pregnancy.
    2. Passengers requiring wheelchairs or other special needs are requested to advise African Liner at least one week before departure and we will do all that is reasonable to accommodate such passengers.
  13. General
    1. Passengers are advised that occurrences such as mechanical incidents, traffic accidents, bad weather, roadworks, cross boarder delays, traffic congestion and diversions can and do affect the African Liner time lines and schedules. As such African Liner cannot be held liable for any loss, damage or unpredictable delay caused by any incidents or occurrences beyond its reasonable control.
    2. African Liner reserves the right to revise seat allocations and to make use of reserve or alternative vehicles. Should operational circumstances require.
    3. Quotes are only valid on issue of the ticket and African Liner reserves the right to change fares without prior notice.
    4. Seat belts are compulsory at all times.
